How does Deinococcus radiodurans reproduce?
- SEXUALLY- it transfers genes
- Cell divides and only the membrane and peptidogycan layer are used.
- The other layers form on the surface as the new cells grows.
- EARLY STAGES:
*D. radiodurans is found in pairs as two connected cells.
- LATER STAGES:
*It undergoes mitosis and changes into clusters of four cells.
*Within these clusters, each cluster keep 4-8 copies of its DNA to help it repair when broken.
* This faster reparation helps it withstand radiation because it can repair faster than other bacteria can.
